Workshops & Consultancy
Gabrielle offers story and script consultancy to documentary, hybrid and fiction film projects. Recently she was the story consultant for the award winning and Oscar qualifying film ‘Freedom Swimmer’ by Olivia Martin-McGuire.
Other films Gabrielle has collaborated on include ‘Progress’ by Florian Kunert which premiered at the Berlinale (2019) and was winner of best medium length film at the Germany film awards, Along with award-winning film ‘All of Our Heartbeats Are Connected Through Exploding Stars’ by Jennifer Rainsford (2022).
Gabrielle has given film workshops to film schools and universities including the Australian Film and Television school (2022), Australian National University (2019/ 2022), ECU Perth (2019), and RMIT. (2019)
She has also offered workshops through the Scottish Documentary Institute (2021/ 2022), Camden Film festival, (2018) Australian International Documentary Conference (2019), Potsdam University Germany (2020) , and as part of the Fogo island film residency (2019) .
Her workshops include ideas around hybrid film making; bringing performance in to documentary film, working with non professional actors, taking fragment writing to treatment form and approach to sound and image as cinematic form in documentary film making. Gabrielle recently gave an online workshop about ‘slow memory and film making’ as part of the Slow Memory network of academics (2022).
Gabrielle is in a long standing collaboration with narrative therapy practitioner Poh Lin Lee. Gabrielle and Poh Lin have offered workshops exploring the cross section between film making and narrative therapy practices. Some themes include working with non professional actors, exploring non extractive approaches to film making processes and community engagement as part of cinematic approach. They continue to collaborate and offer workshops together.
Gabrielle has been part of mentoring programs including ‘Connecting Stories’ with the Scottish Documentary Institute (2021, 2022). IF/THEN shorts program from Field of Vision (2022) and as a mentor at the AIDC (2019).
Gabrielle has been a jury member for the Doc Aviv film festival (2021) and Sola Luna Doc film festival (2020).
